ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif Wednesday briefed the National Assembly about Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s “private” visit to the United States where he had undergone strict security check.
The foreign minister said that protocol was not requested as it was the private visit of the premier.
Referring to a citizen’s killing after being hit by a US Embassy vehicle with a diplomat behind the wheel last week, the minister told the Lower House that the US diplomat was still in Pakistan and action would be taken as per the law.
To a question raised by the opposition on US-Pakistan relations, the minister said decisions made in the tenure of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf were the root-cause of the problem. He said that several Pakistanis were handed over to US for dollars in Musharraf’s tenure. He said still three innocent Pakistanis were imprisoned in the Guantanamo Bay. “We are in contact with US authorities in this regard.”
