Prosecution witness records statement in NAB cases against Nawaz, Maryam

ISLAMABAD: Accountability court has recorded statement of a prosecution witness on Wednesday in corruption references against former premier Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz.

Nawaz, Maryam and her husband Captain (r) Safdar are facing probes lodged with National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on order of Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP).

During a hearing conducted today, prosecution witness Abdullah Wahid’s statement was recorded however statements of other witnesses are to be recorded in the coming hearing owing to limited time.

The witness presented a CD bearing interview of Maryam Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz with a private television channel that was aired on December 29. An interview of Nawaz Sharif that aired on December 30 was presented in the court as well.

Mohsin Shah Nawaz Ranjha, a leader of PML-N complained to the judge during the hearing that the prosecutor was whispering to the witness.

Khawaja Haris and Amjad Pervez cross-examined the prosecution witness with the former objecting that neither the witness can read nor write.

The court adjourned proceedings in the case until February 13.
