LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of three-time ousted premier Nawaz Sharif who has been serving his seven-year sentence in the Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore, on Saturday held a press conference in Lahore over the updated health status of her father.
“I want to put the case of Nawaz Sharif’s [deteriorating] health in front of the general public…I want to apprise people about Nawaz Sharif’s health,” she said.
She stated that her father has been suffering from heart disease for the last 15 years, and he suffered third heart attack in the Adiala Jail.
“I wasn’t informed about it and when his health further deteriorated, I was called in the office of superintendent where some cardiologists were present,” she added.
She said Sharif had refused to go to a hospital and thereafter his personal doctor was called from Lahore in emergency.
“Mian Sahab said he couldn’t go to a hospital by leaving Maryam alone,” she said, adding that she wasn’t aware about what treatment was provided to him.
“His personal physician was also not told anything, despite his request,” she went on to say, and that even his discharge certificate wasn’t issued to anyone.
She further said her father, upon his return to the jail, was given medicines and facility of doctors; however one of his arteries is 90 percent blocked.
“Nawaz Sharif has already underwent three heart surgeries, and his first bypass was performed during his prime ministership,” she added.
