Nawaz Sharif seeks Asif Zardari’s help to fortify joint opposition against centre

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has sought assistance from former president Asif Zardari to give the ruling government tough time through strengthening the joint opposition.

Sources said a delegation of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led by Senator Raja Zafarul Haq called on Pakistan Peoples Party Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari at his residence to convey this message.

“An alliance of the joint opposition can give the PTI government a tough time,” said the PML-N leaders.

The PML-N has also requested to field joint candidates for by-elections. To which, Bukhari said he would be candidate who had been runner-up in the constituency in general elections 2018 and for this purpose lists of candidates should be made at provincial level.

Bukhari said he would convey the PML-N supreme leader’s message to his party leadership and would respond after consultation about fielding of joint candidates.

The sources said that PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif will on Monday (today) arrive in Islamabad and in few days he would hold meetings with the PPP high-ups.
