Barred from meeting Nawaz Sharif despite repeated requests, Said Shehbaz Sharif

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president and Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said that he has been barred from meeting ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif at Kot Lakhpat Jail despite requesting again and again.

In a tweet, the former Punjab Chief Minister said that he and other family members used to meet Nawaz twice or thrice a week but now, they are only allowed to see him on Thursdays.

Not permitting mother, sister, brother and daughter to meet Nawaz Sharif is inhumane, he added.

Responding to Shehbaz’s tweet, Punjab Information Minister Syed Samsam Bukhari said that Sharif family can meet Nawaz at any time, adding that the government is ready to hold ex-PM’s medical treatment at any place of his choice in Pakistan.

It is to be mentioned here that former PM is currently serving seven-year sentence at the Kot Lakhpat Jail in Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference.

The accountability court on December 24 convicted Sharif in the Al-Azizia reference, and subsequently sentenced him to seven years in prison while acquitted him in the Flagship reference cases filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in mega corruption scandals.

In the 131-page judgement written by the accountability court judge Arshad Malik, reasons of his conviction were mentioned.

It said that the prosecution had successfully established all the ingredients of the offence of corruption committed by Sharif, and that he had failed to provide legal money trail of his assets.

Later, Sharif was arrested from the premises of the accountability court.
