A money-laundering convict is calling a rally to welcome him: Imran

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan said that it was unfathomable that a person convicted of money laundering is calling for a grand rally to welcome him to the country.

Addressing a party convention, the PTI chairman said that in a Western democracy like the United Kingdom, a person convicted of corruption cannot even step outside in society and face the public.

“Nawaz Sharif was involved in corruption worth billions. Now he is coming and is expecting a grand rally to welcome him. This only happens in societies where there is no justice,” he said.

He said that people are not given their due rights, which has deprived 25 million children from education and 45 percent are suffering from stunt growth and are malnourished due to lack of nutrition hampering their physical and mental growth.

“It is the responsibility of the state to provide basic necessities to the poor people. If the powerful oppress the poor, then they have no resources to receive justice,” he said, adding that rule of law and the provision of justice are the hallmarks of a society.

He said it is the responsibility of the state to provide four basic necessities – provide education, take care of their health, dispense justice and provide employment. “In a western country or other developed states, there are special funds provided to the unemployed.”

He said the welfare society in Madinnah, which was a role model and the inspiration for Pakistan, had rights for all minorities and other segments of society. However, the country has a weak system of justice and incidents like Raymond Davis occur and people get away from it.

“A civilized society is one in there is rule of law and provision of justice,” he said, adding that he started his struggle for the provision of justice to the masses, and not a society where minorities are deprived of their rights and people living in slums next to posh localities.
